2020 was a different year for all of us, filled with challenges and determination. At ASA, we decided no matter what the circumstances are; we will provide events for our youth, even if their virtual. Featured Events: ASA started out the year in the winter spirit with the ASA Family Movie Night, featuring: One Day in the Haram- as well as, the annual Mad River Mountain Snow Tubing event; both were great successful events. As the COVID-19 Pandemic began, and Black Lives Matter Movement started gaining interest. ASA held the Candlelight Memorial for George Floyd- with youth presentations, and Guest Speaker: Amina Barhumi; the event was a great success and definitely brought out the BLM message. Following the next event, and still focusing on BLM; ASA held their Peaceful Protest to support BLM, which brought out more of the BLM message (both events held at Ahlulbayt Society of Columbus). ASA’s next events from now-on would be virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ASA’s first virtual event was, The Words of Truth Poetry Competition. Which took place in November 2020. The event was a great hit, with competitors from all over the world, and Guest Poets: Sara Abou Rashed, and Fariha Tayyab. Starting 2021 with a bang! ASA conducted their second virtual event, Virtual Muslim Unity Day! Which was a great success with Muslim youth from all over the country, and Special Guest Speaker, and former ASA Advisor: Yusra Shao. Many games were played, as well as, fun interactions with other Muslim Youth across the country.
